πŸ“ Admissions

Welcome! Here you'll find everything you need to know about applying for a place at Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School.

Choosing the right school for your child matters. At Cottesbrooke, children settle quickly, feel confident and develop the skills they need to succeed as they move through school.

  • Children quickly become confident readers and learners
  • A warm, inclusive environment where every child is known
  • Strong foundations for a successful move to Key Stage 2

Whether you're applying for Nursery, Reception or an in-year transfer, we’re here to help and happy to answer any questions.

Children leave Cottesbrooke as confident learners, well prepared for the next stage of their education. The vast majority of our children go on to Cedars Academy, where they continue their school journey in Key Stage 2 with strong foundations in place.

Our admissions policy sets out how places are allocated, including oversubscription criteria, waiting lists and the right of appeal.

🧸 Nursery Admissions (Age 3+)

We manage our own admissions for Nursery.

To apply for a Nursery place:

  • Call the school office on 0121 706 2742

  • Collect a form in person or download it here

  • Bring your child’s birth certificate or passport and proof of address

We offer both part-time and full-time places, depending on availability.

🏫 Reception Admissions (Age 4+)

Reception admissions are managed by Birmingham City Council.

If your child is due to start school in the September after their 4th birthday, you need to apply through the council. Applications open in October and close in January. Applications received after this date will be classed as 'late' and will be processed after national offer day in April.

πŸ”„ In-Year Admissions

If you are applying for a place mid-year (1 September to 31st August) or your child is transferring from another school (at any time other than the start of Reception), the application is managed directly by us. In‑year applications are considered in line with our published admissions policy and subject to place availability.

Please contact the school office and collect an application form to proceed.

As with Nursery admissions, we will need to see your child’s birth certificate or passport and proof of address.

🏫 Key Stage 2 (Junior School)

At the end of Year 2, the majority of our children move on to Cedars Academy for Key Stage 2.

Cedars work closely with us and give priority to children from Cottesbrooke as part of their admissions procedure. This transfer is not automatic. Parents and carers must complete an online application via Birmingham City Council and we can support families through this process.

Cedars Academy is just over the road from us. Although Cedars is a separate school with its own Head Teacher and governing body, we work closely together to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition.

By the time children leave Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School, they are confident, independent learners, well prepared for the move to junior school. Many parents feel this early transition helps children become more resilient and ready for future changes, including the eventual move to secondary school.
