💻 Computing at Cottesbrooke
At Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School, Computing helps children develop the confidence, curiosity and skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing digital world.
We teach children how to use technology safely, creatively and purposefully, following the Kapow Computing scheme of work across Key Stage 1.
🧠 Why Computing Matters
Computing prepares children for a future where technology will play a central role in life, learning and work. It teaches them how to:
-
Understand and follow simple algorithms
-
Create and debug basic programs
-
Use technology to create, organise and store digital content
-
Develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills
-
Make safe, respectful choices when using technology
🖥️ How We Teach It
Across the school, children have access to a wide range of technology, including:
-
Computers and tablets
-
Programmable toys (like Bee-Bots)
-
Interactive whiteboards and projectors
-
Digital cameras, microphones and recorders
-
Child-friendly software and apps
In Early Years, children explore technology through play, games and talk. In Key Stage 1, lessons become more structured, introducing the key areas of Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
We use Kapow’s Computing scheme to ensure progression, consistency and challenge across Year 1 and Year 2.
🌐 E-Safety
Children are taught how to stay safe online from the very start of school life. E-Safety is embedded throughout the curriculum and taught explicitly as part of Computing and PSHE.
We teach children to:
-
Use devices with care and kindness
-
Recognise when something online doesn’t feel right
-
Ask for help if they’re unsure or worried
-
Keep personal information private
Our aim is to help children become safe, responsible digital citizens, equipped with the knowledge and confidence to navigate technology in everyday life
