Our CUBS Values

🦁 What we Believe at Cottesbooke:

At Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School, our aim is to be a Caring, Inspiring, Nurturing and Successful school — a place where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn.

Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School children, leaders, staff and families worked together to produce our CUBS Values, represented by four lion cubs; Cleo, Umair, Bella and Sam. The Values underpin all that we do and embedded in every part of school life. They are taught, modelled and reinforced daily.

Our CUBS Values help us all to grow together and shape the kind of school we want to be. They’re woven through everything we do, from classroom routines to playtimes, assemblies to learning behaviours.

🌟 CUBS stands for:

Caring and Polite

  • We use please, thank you and excuse me – manners show we care
  • We look out for people who may need a friend
  • We use gentle hands and kind words
  • We share and help others
  • We’re kind and friendly to everyone

🤝🏽 Understand We Are All Equal

  • We all have the same rights
  • We are all different – and that’s amazing!
  • Everyone’s voice matters
  • We can like different things and still be friends
  • Our school belongs to everyone – we should all feel safe and welcome

💡 Brilliant Learners

  • We keep trying, even when it’s tricky
  • It’s okay to make mistakes – that’s how we learn something new
  • We listen when a teacher or friend is talking
  • We have a try before we ask for help
  • It’s good to ask questions if we’re still not sure

🛡️ Stay Safe

  • We tell someone if we’re worried or hurt
  • We move calmly and quietly around the school
  • We remind each other of the playground and toilet rules – they keep us safe
  • If we see something scary online we tell a grown-up straight away
  • We help each other look after our school and keep it safe and tidy

💬 Why our values matter

Our values are for everyone — children, staff, families and visitors. They help us build a community where:

  • relationships are strong

  • everyone feels included and respected

  • learning is exciting and purposeful

  • children can grow into confident, curious and compassionate people

🧠 How we support children to live our values

We know that young children are still learning how to manage emotions, solve problems and build friendships. That’s why we use emotion coaching, restorative approaches, and a focus on connection before correction to support behaviour and wellbeing.

We don’t expect children to get it right all the time — instead, we support them to understand, reflect, repair and try again.

We work closely with families to make sure every child feels secure, understood and ready to learn.
