Hello and welcome to Reception!
How we learn
In Reception we love learning new things. We learn through play and by exploring our environment. We can work by ourselves and together with our friends. We learn new skills with our teachers and utilise them in our own play. Lots of our achievements are shown on Target Tracker so please go and take a look!
Please ensure your child always has a PE kit in school. This consists of a t-shirt, shorts and pumps in a drawstring bag. Please remember to name all items and remove jewellery on the day of PE.

Each class has a timetabled library session every week where they can choose a book to take home. This is a really good opportunity for you to spend some quality time enjoying different books with your child. Please can all children make sure they bring their library book back on a Monday morning.
There is phonics homework daily which consists of letter formation sheets, reading books or focus words. Most homework does not need to be returned unless stated with a date for returning.
Every Friday your child will being home a reading book. Please return by the Wednesday of the following week so that the books can be changed.
We use an online learning journal known as 'Target Tracker' which gives you a snapshot of what your child has been learning and which you can view on your phone, tablet or PC. If you are yet to access Target Tracker please speak to a member of staff who will be able to help you on this matter. If you don't have access to the internet you are more than welcome to pop in to Reception where we can show you your child's Target Tracker journal and what your child has been learning.
Please name everything!
As the weather gets warmer we are noticing that very few jumpers and cardigans have got names on them. Named items are much more likely to be returned to the right child.
Guidance, documents and overviews
Below you will find all the information you need regarding curriculum provision for our nursery children including the statutory framework and non statutory guidance, half-termly themes, texts/stories, cultural/religious events. Furthermore, you will be able to see a long term overview of what is being learnt by the children over the course of the year.
