🏫📜 School History

Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School has been a proud part of the Acocks Green community since 6th February 1933, when it first opened its doors on Yardley Road.

Back then, it was a combined Infant and Junior School, with six classes (three infant, three junior) moving from a temporary site at Alexander Road Baptist Church.

In 1968, a new Junior School was built on Cedars Avenue, and Cottesbrooke formally separated into two schools. The Infant School remained on the original site — still in the so-called "temporary buildings" — and in 1971, a Nursery was added to the provision.

By 1998, the Infant School was completely rebuilt, offering children bright, modern classrooms, a separate library, dedicated learning spaces and up-to-date facilities.

The new design attracted praise from Baroness Estelle Morris, former Secretary of State for Education, who described the school as a "wonder."

In 2013, the school celebrated its 80th anniversary with a joyful community celebration led by Head Teacher Mrs Luciana Allsopp. Past pupils and staff returned to mark the occasion, and a whole-school photograph captured the moment.

A year later, on 1st April 2014, Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School became a converter academy. Following a successful Ofsted inspection in January 2013, the governing body took the decision to convert in order to retain autonomy and build on the school’s strengths. As a converter academy, the school is run by its governors rather than a sponsor or the local authority.

In 2023, we marked our 90th anniversary with another whole-school photograph — a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to the future. You might even spot a few familiar faces from the last photo!
