School History

On 6th February 1933 Cottesbrooke School on Yardley Road, Acocks Green, opened its doors for the very first time on the current site.  In 1933, however, the school actually catered for both infants and juniors and a total of 3 infant and 3 junior classes moved from the previous temporary site at the Baptist Church on Alexander Road.

In 1968 a new Junior School was built in Cedars Avenue at which point the school separated. The Infant School remained in the "temporary buildings" with a Nursery added in 1971.

The Infant School was rebuilt in 1998 and the children now access modern classrooms with all the facilities required for today's teaching including a separate library, specialist teaching areas, a wifi network and interactive screens and visualisers in all the classrooms.

Estelle Morris (Baroness Morris of Yardley), former Minister for Education, wrote an article about the design of the new school calling it a 'wonder'.

In 2013 the school celebrated its 80th anniversary with a lavish celebration organised by the then Head Teacher, Mrs Luciana Allsopp. Past pupils and staff returned for a party and a photograph of the whole school was taken.

On 1st April 2014 the school became an academy called Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School.  The decision to convert was made by the governors following the school's successful Ofsted report in January 2013.  Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School is a converter academy which means that the governors run the school rather than a sponsor or the local authority.

For the its 90th Anniversary in 2023, the school had another whole school photograph. Spot which staff are the same.
