🦁 Why Our Logo Is a Lion

When Cottesbrooke Infant & Nursery School was rebuilt in the late 1990s, a new logo was introduced to mark a fresh chapter in the school’s life. The lion was chosen not as a symbol of aggression or power, but because it reflected the kind of community the school aspired to be.

Our school lion represents who we are as a community and how we treat one another every day. The lion reminds us that we all belong to the same pride, and that everyone has a role in keeping our school a safe, happy place to learn.

C – Caring and Polite

Lions look after their pride. They stay close, watch out for one another and step in when someone needs help.
At Cottesbrooke, being caring and polite means we use kind words, gentle actions and look after each other, just like a pride does.

U – Understand That We Are All Equal

In a pride, every lion matters — young and old, big and small.
Our lion reminds us that everyone at Cottesbrooke is equal and belongs here, no matter who they are or where they come from.

B – Brilliant Learners

Young lions learn by trying, practising and sometimes getting things wrong. They don’t give up — they learn from mistakes.
Being brilliant learners means being brave enough to have a go, to ask questions and to keep learning even when something feels tricky.

S – Stay Safe

A lion’s most important job is to keep the pride safe.
Our lion reminds us to make safe choices, look after our bodies and feelings, and to ask for help when we need it.

The Cottesbrooke Lion shows us how to live our CUBS values every day — together, as one pride.

📖 The Legend of the Cottesbrooke Lion

Long ago, before the school was as it is today, the children and grown-ups wanted a symbol to watch over their new school building.

They chose a lion.

Not a roaring, frightening lion — but a calm, friendly one.

Every morning, the lion would sit quietly, watching the children arrive.
When children felt nervous, the lion stayed close.
When children felt cross or sad, the lion reminded them they were safe.
When children tried something new and found it hard, the lion stayed patient and proud.

The lion didn’t shout.
The lion didn’t rush.
The lion believed.

It believed that children grow best when they are cared for.
It believed that everyone belongs.
It believed that learning takes courage.
And it believed that success comes when we feel safe enough to try.

That is why the lion still lives at Cottesbrooke today.

Not to roar —
but to remind us that we are Caring, Inspiring, Nurturing
and together, Successful.
