Reception

Welcome to Reception’s page.

How we learn:

In Reception we love learning new things. We learn through play and by exploring our environment. We can work by ourselves and together with our friends. We learn new skills with our teachers and utilise them in our own play. Lots of our achievements are shown on Tapestry so please go and take a look!

Reminders:

Please ensure your child always has a PE kit in school. This consists of a t-shirt, shorts and pumps in a drawstring bag. Please remember to name all items and remove jewellery on the day of PE.

Dragonfly PE day - Wednesday

Caterpillar PE day - Thursday

Ladybird PE day - Tuesday

Each class has a timetabled library session every week where they can choose a book to take home. This is a really good opportunity for you to spend some quality time enjoying different books with your child. Please can all children make sure they bring their library book back on a Monday morning.

Home learning:

Each week we have maths homework with a set of activities which is usually linked to the weekly theme in Reception. There is phonics homework each week that may consist of letter formation sheets, reading books or focus words. Most homework does not need to be returned, unless stated with a date for returning. Please share your child's achievements with us as often as you like on Tapestry.

Reading books

Every Friday your child will being home a reading book. Please return by the Wednesday of the following week so that the books can be changed.

Magic maths

Each day a child will be chosen to take home a 'Magic Maths' rucksack which has a number of games inside to play with your child. Please return this rucksack the following day so another child may enjoy the games.

Traditional Stories

What We are Learning

In Reception we have been learning about growth and change. We have been planting our own seeds and learning the story of Jasper's beanstalk to talk about how the seed changes into a beanstalk. We have practised retelling the story using a story map and actions and have also written instructions about how to plant a seed.

We love creative activities and have enjoyed decorating our own magic beans, making leaves and designing our own beanstalk! We have also had the chance to talk about how other things change, such as caterpillars into butterflies. We enjoyed painting our own butterflies and caterpillars.

In PE we have been finding different ways to move and travel. This half term we have been using different apparatus and have been very brave climbing onto the tall frames! We loved going into the tunnel and finding different ways to move and balance on the bench.

As part of our maths learning, we have been trying to recognise numbers bigger than 10 and have enjoyed dancing to number songs. We are getting better at problem solving and have even been able to add numbers to find out how many altogether.
