Welcome to Reception’s page.

How we learn:

In Reception we love learning new things. We learn through play and by exploring our environment. We can work by ourselves and together with our friends. We learn new skills with our teachers and utilise them in our own play. Lots of our achievements are shown on Tapestry so please go and take a look!

Reminders:

Please ensure your child always has a PE kit in school. This consists of a t-shirt, shorts and pumps in a drawstring bag. Please remember to name all items and remove jewellery on the day of PE.

Dragonfly PE day - Wednesday

Caterpillar PE day - Thursday

Ladybird PE day - Tuesday

Each class has a timetabled library session every week where they can choose a book to take home. This is a really good opportunity for you to spend some quality time enjoying different books with your child. Please can all children make sure they bring their library book back on a Monday morning.

Home learning:

Each week we have maths homework with a set of activities which is usually linked to the weekly theme in Reception. There is phonics homework each week that may consist of letter formation sheets, reading books or focus words. Most homework does not need to be returned, unless stated with a date for returning. Please share your child's achievements with us as often as you like on Tapestry.

Reading books

Every Friday your child will being home a reading book. Please return by the Wednesday of the following week so that the books can be changed.

Magic maths

Each day a child will be chosen to take home a 'Magic Maths' rucksack which has a number of games inside to play with your child. Please return this rucksack the following day so another child may enjoy the games.

Traditional Stories

Summer Term

Wow, we can’t believe we are in the last term, we don’t want it to end!

This term we are learning the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We are changing the vegetables and characters to make our own stories.  Now we are getting really good at retelling stories and writing our own stories.

Next half term we will be looking at the stories The Gruffalo and Whatever Next.

In Maths, we are learning how to add and take away, sharing, halving and doubling. We will also be learning to use the language of weight, capacity, distance and position.

In Art, we have learnt to make a mask. We have learned the skills of folding paper, rolling, curling and how to make a Jacob’s ladder.

In PE, we have been learning how to use small and large apparatus safely. We learnt how to travel over large apparatus in different ways and have learnt how to land safely.

In phonics, we are all doing really well at learning new sounds and reading confidently. Thank you for all your help and support!

We still love playing outdoors! We have been exploring what happens when we roll things along guttering. We have been practising our throwing and catching skills and continue to love building with the tyres, blocks and crates.

We are looking forward to our trip to Conkers on 13th June. We hope the sun shines and the rain stays away!

Spring term

This term we have been looking at the story 'The Billy goats gruff'. We changed the characters and who was hiding under the bridge and made up our own stories ! Make sure you read them in our writing books as they are great !

We also learnt how to write instructions and made our own sandwiches!

Autumn term

After settling in so well Reception began their learning journey. We started to learn our sounds and our 'Talk4 writing' stories, 'The Gingerbread Man', 'Funny bones' and 'The train Ride.' We also made lots of new friends, played outside and built lots of things. We have been learning to count and know what words like 'more' and 'fewer' mean. We learnt about shapes too.

We also had some special events: Harvest, Diwali, Eid and our Nativity where we visited the church to sing our songs.

Here we making 'Gingerbread men' ! You will also see our story map which we used to help us learn the story.
